Truro and Falmouth Liberal Democrats select local charity expert to fight next General Election

Truro and Falmouth Liberal Democrats have selected Ruth Gripper to be their candidate at the next General Election. The seat was the only Cornish constituency to vote remain in the EU referendum.

Ruth was born and brought up in Perranwell, in the heart of the constituency, and works at the Knowledge Spa at Treliske. She is a trustee of the Royal Cornwall Museum, and has wide experience in a range of roles in the charitable sector.

Speaking after her selection as candidate, Ruth said:

"I am delighted to be selected to fight the seat of Truro and Falmouth, the seat which is my home.

"Politics in Britain is in a complete mess right now. Labour and the Conservatives are totally divided, and neither party has a plan for dealing with Brexit or the division in the country. The Liberal Democrats are campaigning for the people to have the final say, so that we can move forward as a country and deal with the challenges facing education, the NHS, and so many other issues that have been neglected for the past three years."

At the hustings meeting Ruth laid out her priorities for Truro and Falmouth constituency: opportunity for children and young people; supporting local businesses and communities; and tackling the climate crisis.

Local party Chair Mike Wilson said,

"I'm delighted with the selection the local party has made. Ruth has the energy and determination to win back this seat, and to make a first class MP for the people of Truro and Falmouth."
