Truro & Falmouth Liberal Democrats are celebrating after local campaigner Bridget Andrews won a stunning Truro City Council by-election victory on Thursday, December 5th.

Elected as the new City Councillor for Trehaverne ward, Bridget secured 540 votes (70.5%) to her Conservative opponent's 226 (29.5%), a majority of 41% and a swing of 40.5% from the Conservatives to the Lib Dems since this May's Cornwall Council elections.

Bridget Andrews said:

"I am delighted that the local community has endorsed me so overwhelmingly. I look forward to working with Mayor John Tamblyn and the rest of the Lib Dem team, including our new Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Simon Rix. I will be working hard to secure the things we campaigned on - saving the trees at Highertown, resolving the parking chaos in Hendra and generally standing up for the people of Truro."

Simon Rix, the newly-selected Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Truro & Falmouth, said:

"Bridget will be a brilliant asset to the Lib Dem team on Truro City Council. Her dramatic by-election success, together with the fact that this by-election took place in the ward represented by the Conservative leader on Cornwall Council, show that local residents have lost faith in the Conservatives. In our part of Cornwall, the only alternative to the Conservatives is the Liberal Democrats, and we will continue to fight for the things that matter to local people."
