"Tackling youngsters before they get involved in crime is much more effective than punishing them when things go from bad to worse," said Mr Huhne.

Mr Huhne talked to probation and youth workers at the Dracaena Centre in Falmouth accompanied by prospective MP for Truro and Falmouth Terrye Teverson.

"Tackling youngsters before they get involved in crime is much more effective than punishing them when things go from bad to worse," said Mr Huhne. "That's why visible policing, and Youth Centres and youth workers are so important".

"I am delighted Chris has been able to come to Truro and Falmouth today and talk to frontline workers about the issues affecting Falmouth," Mrs Teverson said. "It's essential that victims and local residents have a direct say on issues such as anti-social behaviour which impact our communities. Liberal Democrats are committed to putting more police officers on the beat, paid for by scrapping ID cards.
