The role of Cornwall Councillor is a vital one for the County, the Local Party, and the constituents that the Councillor represents. We are looking now for suitable candidates to stand in the 2021 elections, and welcome applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds. The earlier a candidate is selected, the more likely they are to be elected. NB These elections will be fought on the new boundaries, which can be found on the Cornwall Council Interactive Map. Once on the map, select Map Layers, then Government Boundaries then Electoral Divisions.

The role is a demanding one, and an allowance of approx 14K is payable to councillors to reflect the commitment required. Elected councillors are required to remit 10% net of this sum to Local Party Funds.

Those who are interested in applying to be a candidate, or who wish to find out more, should should read the following documents:

LibDem Cornwall Councillors Charter

LibDem Cornwall Councillor Approval Rules

LibDem Cornwall Councillor Approval Form

LibDem Group Standing Orders

These are now the latest versions of these documents, and will be used for the 2020-21 approvals and selections.

Once approved, a candidate may apply to stand in any seat in Cornwall, although generally candidates are encouraged to stand in seats to which they have a strong local connection, ideally by residency.

Approval interviews are scheduled to commence in the spring of 2020. Completed approval forms should be sent to LibDem Councillor Applications, 3 Charles St, Truro TR12PQ, or emailed to info@trurofalmouth-libdems.org.uk

Potential applicants who do not yet feel ready to complete an application form, but who would like to know more, should email info@trurofalmouth-libdems.org.uk
