"It's such a shame the village playground has been left to fall into such a state of disrepair," said Andrea Stanley.

Parents from a North Cornish village are calling on local residents to get behind a campaign to clean up the village playground.

Around 30 parents from Goonhavern contacted Terrye Teverson to express their safety concerns about the local park, and invite her to visit the playground.

"I was shocked by the state of the village playground," said Mrs Teverson, Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for Truro and Falmouth.

"The play equipment is in a very poor state with the metal almost completely rusted through in some places. Parents are concerned that the equipment is unsafe, especially the swings which young children have fallen out of. They also told me that there are often problems with broken glass and dog mess. It's completely unacceptable - the children living in Goonhavern deserve a safe place to play and run around."

Andrea Stanley is one of the parents leading the campaign.

"It's such a shame the village playground has been left to fall into such a state of disrepair," She said.

"None of us feel safe letting our children play in there. We are asking people to complete the survey form we are putting out around Goonhavern so we can try and get something done. People have tried in the past to clean the area up, but we never seem to get anywhere. We are hoping that with Terrye Teverson backing our campaign we can finally get a decent play area for our children."

If you would like to get involved in the campaign or tell Terrye Teverson about a problem with your local playground please contact her on 01872 242493 or terrye@teverson.net .
