    In his keynote speech to the Liberal Democrat Conference, Party Leader and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has outlined his goals for the Government and the country over the coming years. He reiterated his commitment to liberal values on the environment and human rights and his determination to ensure a fair chance for every child, saying "every child can do good things, great things, if only we give them the opportunities they deserve."

    Liberal Democrats on Cornwall Council have welcomed the decision by councillors to reject a plan put forward by Conservative Leader Alec Robertson to increase the amount paid to an inner circle of councillors.

    Cllr Robertson had proposed that a remuneration panel be set up to establish the pay level for a new tier of councillors to be known as 'Cabinet Support Members'. Liberal Democrats Cllr Jeremy Rowe and Cllr Alex Folkes proposed that there should be no pay for these posts and their amendment was supported by 55 votes to 35.

    Cornwall Council's Liberal Democrats have unveiled their new Shadow Cabinet and Leadership team at their AGM in St Austell this week.

    Following the recent retirement of Doris Ansari (centre) as Group Leader at Cornwall Council, Jeremy Rowe (left) has been elected to replace her and Alex Folkes (right) has been chosen as the new Deputy Leader. The Lib Dems have also unveiled their new Shadow Cabinet team who will be aiming to call the struggling Conservative/Independent coalition at County Hall to account after a series of recent blunders.
