"Tackling youngsters before they get involved in crime is much more effective than punishing them when things go from bad to worse," said Mr Huhne.

Mr Huhne talked to probation and youth workers at the Dracaena Centre in Falmouth accompanied by prospective MP for Truro and Falmouth Terrye Teverson.

"Tackling youngsters before they get involved in crime is much more effective than punishing them when things go from bad to worse," said Mr Huhne. "That's why visible policing, and Youth Centres and youth workers are so important".

"It's essential that victims and local residents have a direct say on issues such as anti-social behaviour which impact our communities. Liberal Democrats are committed to putting more police officers on the beat, paid for by scrapping ID cards.
