"You can really feel the community spirit here."

Mylor Bridge near Falmouth is one of the best villages for elderly people to live in according to locals visiting their weekly lunch club.

More than 30 people attended the lunch at Tremayne Village Hall - many of them were born and brought up in Mylor Bridge and still think the village is one of the best to live in with excellent bus routes and village facilities.

Terrye Teverson, Parliamentary Candidate for Truro and Falmouth, joined some of the regulars for the two course lunch last week.

"It was really inspiring to meet people who had lived through such changes in their lifetime and in their village," said Mrs Teverson.

"I was lucky enough to sit on a table with three ladies who had lived in Mylor Bridge for a combined 259 years. All in their eighties, they had gone to school together, married and worked in the village. They told me about carrying pails of milk from the local farm, bombs landing in the centre of the village in the Second World War and how life has changed over the years."

"These lunch clubs are a vital part of many elderly peoples' week. For many it will be one of the only hot meals they get and gives them a chance to socialise and talk with friends. The volunteers who run these clubs are really doing an amazing job."

Bernice Allen has her lunch in Tremayne Hall every Tuesday with old school friends Barbara Rogers and Betty Jode.

"Mylor Bridge is a fantastic community to live in. I was born and brought up here and am proud of those roots," Mrs Allen explained.

"We have a good connecting bus to Falmouth, but really we have everything you could need right here in the village. There are well stocked shops, a post office, doctors, dentist, hairdressers, school, pub and the village hall."

"I think it must be one of the best small villages in Cornwall."

Mrs Teverson added: "You can really feel the community spirit here. People look out for each other because they know each other and spend time with each other at the many events that are held in the village. Many villages have lost that sense of community but it's great to see it's alive and well in Mylor Bridge."
