FALMOUTH RESIDENTS URGED TO ATTEND KIMBERLEY PARK GARDENS MEETING ON FRIDAY

November 16, 2009 4:33 PM

People in Falmouth are being asked to support proposals for improvements to play facilities in Kimberley Park Gardens by attending a resident's meeting on Friday afternoon.

Campaigners are calling for facilities in the park to be upgraded including opening the toilets and creating a playground which benefits everyone in the town.

"I was amazed how many people in Falmouth have contacted me to complain about children's play facilities in Kimberley Park Gardens," said Terrye Teverson, who is organising the resident's meeting.

"People want to see the park as a centre for the community. It's really beautiful inside but there are absolutely no facilities. The toilets have been closed and are practically derelict. There is one slide and a few swings which have been entertaining generations of children and really need to be updated."

Mrs Teverson, the Parliamentary Candidate for Truro and Falmouth, has recently run a survey to find out the state of playgrounds in the area.

"More than 50% of responses to the survey were about Kimberley Park. The feeling was very strongly in favour of something being done to create a focal point for Falmouth and which encompasses everyone who lives in the town - not just young children." She added.

"It would be fantastic if we could create a space in the town's main park which combats all the negative news stories about childhood obesity or lack of things for young people to do. Helston and St Austell both have incredible play areas and Falmouth is missing out. With enough public support and planning Falmouth could have play facilities for children and adults, and a park which rivals all of its neighbours."

Mrs Teverson will be meeting resident's in Kimberley Park Gardens on Friday 20th November at 2pm. If you cannot come to the meeting but would like to get involved please call 01872 242493.
