FARM ENTRANCE IS AN "ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN" SAYS TEVERSON

Mr Pearce explained that he had been involved in a serious accident last year when his car was rolled over while he was turning off the A30 into his farm.

A farmer from Penhallow claims he is putting his life at risk everytime he drives in or out of his own farm because there are no speed restrictions in place along the A30 which runs past his entrance.

Anthony Pearce, who lives at Creegmeor Farm, asked Terrye Teverson, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Truro and Falmouth, to visit his home and see the problem firsthand.

"My farm entrance is straight off the A30 and with cars regularly travelling at speeds up to 80mph it is extremely dangerous trying to come in or out of our home," Mr Pearce explained.

"It's a nightmare and constant worry. I have already had two serious accidents but no-one seems to be able to help us."

Creegmeor Farm is opposite the B3284 Shortlanesend exit on the dualled section of the A30.

"Standing at the farm entrance you can immediately see the problem. Traffic speeds past on that particular section of the road - drivers treat it like a motorway," Mrs Teverson said.

"It's almost impossible to get out of the entrance and very frightening."

Mr Pearce explained that he had been involved in a serious accident last year when his car was rolled over while he was turning off the A30 into his farm.

"Cars just don't realise there is an entrance here - so they don't expect me to be slowing down to turn in. Drivers come so fast around the bend they have to slam their brakes on to stop and that very dangerous on a fast moving road like this. My son-in-law has also had his car rolled over in exactly the same place." He added.

Mrs Teverson has contacted Cornwall Council highway department to discuss ways of making the farm egress and exit safer.

Mrs Teverson added: "Situations like this should be resolved before someone gets seriously injured. The ideal outcome would be for the road to be made into a single carriageway, but I understand this would be expensive. At the very least there should be signage on the road warning drivers of the hazard and speed limits put in place."
