PUBLIC ANGER MOUNTS OVER FALMOUTH'S "INADEQUATE AND RUBBISH" PLAYGROUNDS

A lack of decent play facilities for children in Falmouth have been slammed as "shameful" by people replying to Terrye Teverson's Playground Survey.

The survey was delivered to 44,000 homes across Truro and Falmouth, and while complaints have been sent in from across the area, the majority are from Falmouth and are specifically critical about Kimberly Park Gardens.

"Almost everyone agrees that Kimberly Park Gardens is a beautiful park but that it lacks anything for the community, specifically for children." Mrs Teverson, the Lib Dem PPC for Truro and Falmouth said.

"On the day we visited the toilets were closed and boarded up, and the play facilities consisted of some swings and one slide. When you see the parks that have been recently opened in Helston, Truro and St Austell, it really makes the facilities in Falmouth seem laughable."

"Many people have complained that dog mess in the park makes it a real health hazard to younger children. Another lady said that her granddaughters are using the same "rubbish" play equipment that their mother did 30 years earlier. I want to see a new playground in Kimberly Park Gardens - one with imaginative play equipment that caters to children and young people of all ages."

Mrs Teverson has also been contacted by the Lambs Lane Tenants and Resident's Association who have been awarded a grant from the Playing Fields Association to upgrade their local play area.

"It is fantastic to see what local people working together can achieve. The park at Lambs Lane is being upgraded and will cater to young and old alike. This is great for Falmouth and a great way to motivate young people to get out and get active." Mrs Teverson added.
