YOUTH CENTRE SAVED THANKS TO LOCAL LANDLORD

Teenagers in Perranporth will continue to have a place to socialise thanks to the goodwill of one local landlord.
Alan Hoskins, landlord of the Green Parrot Pub, has allowed a drop in centre run by the Youth Initiative Perranporth to be held in the back bar.
Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Truro and Falmouth Terrye Teverson and former Managing Director of Pirate FM Joseph Swain were surprise visitors at the group last week.
"These days we only hear about problems caused by young people." Mrs Teverson said.
"It's so important for us to support teenagers and give them places to go and spend time with their friends. Mr Hoskins from the Green Parrot has given the Youth Initiative Perranporth a real chance of survival with his community spirited decision - if we had more people like this perhaps we wouldn't have so many problems with anti-social behaviour."
Sue Davey, who first started the youth group in Perranporth and whose daughter Vicky is now a youth volunteer with the group thought it was a 'brilliant' gesture by the landlord.
"In the long term it's intended to build a youth centre." Linda Boylen, secretary of the Youth Initiative Perranporth explained.
"We have already secured a grant from Carrick Council and are working through legal issues before going ahead with any building work. This lifeline by Alan at the Green Parrot has been a huge boost for us and means we still have somewhere to meet."
Originally set up to provide support and activities for 13 to 19 year olds, the Youth Initiative Perranporth is working to offer young people in the area somewhere safe to spend time together.
