Terrye highlights homeless problem in Cornwall at Brighton Conference

Terrye Teverson told delegates at the Liberal Democrat conference in Brighton about the huge housing issues in Cornwall.
"The problem is that the the average house prices are 16 times the average income. This is double the national average which is currently 8 times the average income. It shows that Carrick district has double the problem of anywhere else in the country."
Terrye outlined the huge issues for local families. She said, "We have fishermen who now have to commute to the sea to go fishing! And farmworkers who drive miles back to the farms."
Terrye told delegates that the situation was now dire with many villages full of second homes since many people saw houses as the best form of pension plan.
She said, "Many villages now have no school, no shop, no pub and no church. The very heart of Cornish life is being torn out."
