Truro and St Austell MP, Matthew Taylor, today attended the launch of the Real Baby Milk campaign at Treliske Hospital, Truro, a new Cornish initiative designed to educate and support parents of small babies.

The campaign website provides online information at www.realbabymilk.com about the benefits of breastfeeding, and also gives advice for meeting the challenges breastfeeding can present. Project Co-ordinator, Arwen Folkes, has also set up support groups across the county, from Penzance to Launceston. Mr Taylor has long expressed an interest in baby welfare; most recently he attended the launch of the Real Nappy Project, another Cornish initiative which encouraged parents use environmentally friendly re-usable nappies.

As well as highlighting the financial benefits of breastfeeding, the Real Baby Milk campaign provides scientific findings of the health benefits associated with breastfeeding.

Commenting, Matthew Taylor MP said:

"It's great that parents in Cornwall are getting this kind of support when it comes to their babies' well being. Breastfeeding has long been proven to give babies the best possible start, and although some mothers are not able to breastfeed, the Real Baby Milk campaign is a great source of support and information for mums who are able but may be finding it difficult. I wish them the best of luck with their venture and have pledged my support and assistance in any way possible."

Project Co-ordinator, Arwen Folkes said:

"Being a mum myself, I know that breastfeeding can present different dilemmas for parents, but I whole-heartedly believe that the health benefits for babies are well worth any issues that may crop up. That is why I set up the Real Baby Milk campaign - to help parents who have questions about breastfeeding, as well as provide support during this new and exciting time in their lives."
